The Principles Of Buying A Commercial Security System

Blog

Do you intend to install a security system in your commercial building? The truth is that you will not find a one-size-fits-all system. So, what should you consider when buying a commercial security system? Below are some principles to observe.

Functionality

A commercial security system should address the security needs of your building. The rule is to examine your needs before purchasing a system. For instance, what threats are the premises exposed to? For example, do you expect burglars to attempt to break into the premises? If you do, you could install motion and glass break sensors to activate the security alarm once they break into the premises. Do you expect some of your employees to breach security protocols? If you do, consider restricted access systems to control the movement of employees on the premises. Do you intend to supervise employees inside the premises? If you do, consider hidden security cameras. Finally, examine the fire threats inside the building to determine the need for smoke sensors, overhead sprinklers, and fire alarms.

Durability

Commercial security systems can be a bit expensive compared to residential systems. Therefore, the purchased system must be durable. Customer reviews are an excellent way to examine the durability of the various systems. The rule is to avoid systems that are prone to malfunctions regardless of how cheap they could be. You could also examine the build quality and the quality of software used by the manufacturer. For instance, CCTV cameras should have weatherproof casings to prevent water damage. On the other hand, biometric scanners should have hardy and highly sensitive screens to ensure people have an easy time scanning their fingerprints.

Remote Access

As a property or business owner, you would want to survey the premises when you are away. Therefore, you should opt for a security system that guarantees remote access. For instance, you might want to check the CCTV cameras to check whether your employees report to work on time. Conversely, you might want to open the main gate and turn off the motion detectors when receiving a package late at night. Remote access features allow you to enjoy and control the security system regardless of location.

Ease of Use

The security system must be easy to use. Remember, your security team might need to make some tweaks to improve its functionality. For instance, security guards might need to change the focus, zoom, or angle of the security cameras. On the other hand, you might need to change the access credentials of the restricted access system after promoting or demoting some of your staff. The purchased security system should allow you to perform these functions without referring to the user manual or contacting the dealer.

Teaching my kids about security

At work we do lots of work on making sure the office stays safe. I try and teach some of those same lessons to the kids, like making sure we don't leave windows and doors open and that we lock the car doors when we come into the house. I don't want my kids to grow up paranoid, but I know it's much easier to maintain our home security if all of these little checks are automatic. I am keeping a track of all of the things I am teaching my kids about security on the site - and working out which lessons actually sink in! Read on and see how I'm going.
