Choosing the Best Security Door

Blog

Security screen doors come in all shapes, sizes, materials and prices. This makes it especially difficult to choose one when going out into the market.

Purpose of Security Doors

One thing is certain, no matter what ones security door requirements are, the primary reason for installation is security. Security doors are designed to offer first line protection against any invaders trying to break into the property. The first step is assessing one's needs. For instance those residing in areas with high crime rates would need the highest level of security.

Another purpose of security doors is ventilation. Security doors allow air to pass through for ample ventilation—particularly in the warmer months—without any danger of intruders entering through the open door. Moreover, it is much easier to open and check who is knocking without compromising on safety through installation of a security door. One does not even need to open the lock to communicate.

As it can be seen, security doors are a valuable investment for any property. Now let's take a look at how to select the best one

Ensure the door meets safety standards: Security doors need to meet Australian safety standards. Many doors on the market may come at a cheap price, but they may not meet these standards, making them easily penetrable. In addition to safety standards, security doors should also meet installation standards, i.e. they must be installed to Australian standards. To ensure that this is done, an installation certificate must be obtained by the service provider at the time of installation.

Choose the best frame, steel or aluminium: steel doors are identified as the most effective safety screen doors on the market by experts. If choosing a steel door, ensure that it is installed properly for optimum safety. Aluminium doors are less prone to corrosion in comparison to steel, so keep this in mind as well.

Choose custom design for optimum protection: custom doors are built and fitted to specific requirements. This means that they fit perfectly and offer the highest level of protection against intruders. Custom doors can also be made in different styles to suit all tastes.

If choosing the best security door means one has to spend a little extra, then this is money well spent. Security doors are a long-term investment, and before choosing one, it is important to research the market and ask lots of questions to ensure one is getting the best deal and product.

Teaching my kids about security

At work we do lots of work on making sure the office stays safe. I try and teach some of those same lessons to the kids, like making sure we don't leave windows and doors open and that we lock the car doors when we come into the house. I don't want my kids to grow up paranoid, but I know it's much easier to maintain our home security if all of these little checks are automatic. I am keeping a track of all of the things I am teaching my kids about security on the site - and working out which lessons actually sink in! Read on and see how I'm going.
